Description: 31 August 1857 HAINAUT. CHIMAY/PARIS. Action de F500. green, black. #2200. No 1897. Several repaired edge-tears. Ornate border. Printed by Chaix, Paris. The aim of the company, which dates from 1856, was to construct a line from Mariembourg, on the Sambre & Meuse valley railway line, to Chimay (16km), and from there to the French frontier in the direction of Laon, there connecting with the CdF des Ardennes. The line was built only as far as Momignies (14km from Chimay), and therefore served little purpose, taking only the modest production of the local mines and quarries to theSambre valley. The concession was acquired by a group led by the Prince de Chimay, and two French noblemen, the Duc de Noailles and the Baron de Seillière. Almost half the initial capital was subscribed by the CdF des Ardennes. The initial name of Cie du CdF de Mariembourg à Chimay was changed to CdF de Chimay at the time of the second share issue in 1857. Signed by the Prince de Chimay, Joseph de Ricquet de Caraman. He was a diplomat by career, who owned foundries and forests, and was a director ofa number of railway and mining companies. Again, extremely rare - last sold by us in 1996 and it is exactly that piece which we offer here again.
