This model is supposed to come from the Continuation Series, which Bob Auxier of BTM revived under authorization of Bill Thomas with remnant parts from the 1960s. This is the vehicle identification number 19 from the series of which only ca. 30 units that may be considered original Cheetahs were built.

The racing vehicle has a German street permit, all components are like new. It was entirely refurbished in the early 2000s and has never been used in a race.

In 1964 the American tuning expert Bill Thomas named his creation Cheetah after the big cat of prey. Thomas was active for Chevrolet, he developed, among others, the racing versions of the rear engine car Corvair. The Cheetah was supposed to be faster than Carrol Shelby's Cobra, indeed, the 5.3 liter Chevrolet engine with direct fuel injection and 385 hp offered an unbelievable performance – with a weight of just 750 kilogram and the long engine hood the car supposedly made around 360 km/h in Daytona. A characteristic feature is the front mid-ship engine that is directly connected to the rear axle, placing the two seats almost at the rear end of the race car, in combination with the independent wheel suspension it offers very good curve handling.

Unfortunately, the garage of Bill Thomas was destroyed in a devastating fire in 1965, before 20 units of the Cobra competitor with the plastic body from the designer Don Edmunds had been completed. When Chevrolet even stopped the supply of its 327 eight-cylinder engines, because the sports regulations for the homologation as series GT increased the required amount from 100 to 1000 units, Bill Thomas abandoned the project, also because Chevrolet offered him to work on the advancement of the Chevy II. In 1996, however, Bob Auxier of BTM decided, with the permission from Bill Thomas, to build the Cheetah in a continuation series of another 46 units. Only those models built before the death of Bill Thomas in October 2009 are acknowledged as authorized. This Cheetah carries the chassis number 19 from the original series, however, the body with the A-pillar on the front screen was made at a later point. The few well-preserved Cheetahs are sought-after collectibles today. (kre)
