Due to its striking fender, the C3 is called the „coke-bottle-shape-Corvette“, because when observing it in side-profile, it looks similar to a reclined coca-cola bottle. The unmistakable design by Zora Arkos Duntoy was often copied by other carmakers. From 1969 until 1976 the lettering „Stingray“ appeared on the front fenders, as one word – in contrast to the C2, which wrote it as „Sting Ray“.

The absolute high point for the hunt for the biggest engine displacement and the highest performance was reached in 1971.

Until the discontinuation of production in October 1982, only the Coupé was available. To comply with the new provisions for impact protection to 5 mph, the Corvette received a front bumper made out of polyurethane in the model year 1973, the rear stayed as the conventional chrome bumper, which was however, in the following model years (only in 1974 divided in the middle) replaced with a PU-Bumper and all following models got a soft nose and tail.

As an absolute novelty within this car series - since 1974 the Corvette at first was equipped with two removable roof panels, after which a crossbar remains, which was called either „T-Bar-Roof“ or „T-Top“. Even the vertical rear window could be removed by the models from the first five production years. It was kept as a stylistic feature until 1977.

Until the last year of production in 1982 the Corvette was only available as coupé since 1978. Between 1969 and 1975 there were 33,081 models produced.
