Description: (CHILDREN'S LITERATURE.) ADAMS, RICHARD. Watership Down. Folding map at rear. 8vo, original brown cloth stamped in gilt, minor rubbing to spine foot; dust jacket, short closed tears along folds, few small smudges, one ink mark to front panel; housed in 1/4 morocco drop-back case by Zaehnsdorf for E. Joseph. London: Rex Collings, 1972

Notes: first edition, inscribed by the author on the title to critic Nicholas Tucker and contains two loosely inserted Autograph Letters Signed by Adams relating to the inscription, in one referring to his preference for a later title of his (Shardik) and compares Hardy's The Woodlanders unfavorably to The Mayor of Casterbridge. A copy of Nicholas Tucker's review of the book extracted from the New Statesman is included in the lot.
