Description: 19th c. US military percussion carbine musket. Lockplate is marked “Harpers/Ferry/1852” behind hammer and with an eagle over “US” forward of hammer. The stock is split and been glued. These Rifles were manufactured at both the U.S. Armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, and under private contract. Mississippi troops serving under future Confederate President Jefferson Davis used this rifle quite successfully during the war with Mexico, hence the nickname "Mississippi Rifle." Measures 44 long.
