Half-title, large folding map of Crimea, 6 folding copper plates including views of Andros, Antiparos & Siphnos. Remarkable descriptions of the customs and the everyday life, through the eyes of an English woman aristocrat. One of the first travel chronicles along Crimea and the Black Sea after the 1783 annexation of Crimea to Russia. During the years 1785-86, Lady Craven traveled through Central Europe to Saint Petersburg, Moscow and the Crimea, from where she sailed to Constantinople. She visited the Greek islands of Andros, Siphnos, Naxos, Antiparos, Melos, and by way of Smyrna ended up again at the Bosporus. Full leather with raised bands and decorations in gilt on spine. Signs of light moisture (marginal) on second half.
