The Cunard Line dated from 1840, with a wooden paddle-steamer, the 'Britannia', which sailed from Liverpool to Halifax and Boston, and marked the start of regular steam services across the Atlantic. Cunard steadily increased the size, speed and luxury of its fleet to meet the ever-growing number of passengers who demanded a better quality of service. Although best-known for its Atlantic service, the company also served the Mediterranean. In 1934 Cunard merged with White Star Line toform Cunard White Star. The name Cunard still appears these days as a cruise line. The lot comes with a postcard of famous the RMS Queen Mary, the flagship of the Cunard Line.
