Description: Lusignano, Steffano di, Bishop. CHOROGRAFFIA, ET BREVE HISTORIA UNIVERSALE DELL'ISOLA DE CIPRO…. Bologna: Alessandro Benaccio, 1573. Petite 4to (8" x 5.75".) [4], 123, [1] leaves. Note leaves 109 and 110 bound just out of place after leaves 111 and 112. Bound in period limp vellum with title in manuscript to spine. Chip to spine and some general toning and soiling to vellum. Old catalogue clipping laid on to pastedown, title with markings and signatures in ink, leaves 9-12 with large water-stains (see photos) and some water-staining to lower margins near end of text, a few leaves with various smaller stains, some light foxing (mostly to margins), overall a Very Good example. ****************************************** First edition, with woodcut device to title, woodcut headpieces and initials, and one woodcut illustration in-text. A rare early history of Cyprus by Lusignano (1537-1590), a native of Cyprus who wrote several works on the subject. He was a descendant of the Royal House of Lusignan (rulers of Cyprus between 1192 and 1475.) [Cobham-Jeffery, p. 35]
