Description: 10 December 1834 MADRID. 5% bond of 400 Piastres=Fr.2160=£85. Serie B. black. No 13146. Large format, folds. Coat of arms of Spain. Text in Spanish, but with translations into English and French. Issued during the First Carlist War (1833-1839). As this bond was issued in Madrid, which was not under Carlist military control, we believe thisloan to be issued by the regent, Maria Christina, who acted for Isabella II of Spain, eldest daughter of King Ferdinand VII. While we have seen various bonds from this period issued by the Carlist side, we don't remember seeing any from the winning side. Only this one bond was recently discovered.
