29 October 2016
Brussels, BelgiumLive Auction
Description: 1 August 1910 FRANKFURT A.M. Aktie über 1000 Mark. green, black. No 2681. Founded 1910 by a group of people, companies and banks interested in the research of Graf Zeppelin. Representatives of various cities interested in this new form of transport, such as Köln, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Essen, were on the board of directors. Halls for storing the airship were offered at Frankfurt, Baden, Düsseldorf and Hamburg. The first airship built at Friedrichshafen by the Zeppelin works, the 'Deutschland', was soon destroyed, in 1910, which was a catastrophe for everyone concerned. 1912 saw flights with the airships 'Hansa', 'Viktoria-Louise' and 'Schwaben', the last of which was destroyed in 1912. In 1913 the airship 'Sachsen' was built. On the outbreak of WWI the airships were taken over by the Reich. From August 1919 regular flights from the Bodensee to Berlin were made, for research and propaganda purposes. Over 100 flights were made, carrying well over 2000 passengers. The company continued until 1936, when it was liquidated by a bank in Friedrichshafen. A rare and important piece.
