Description: This exact decoy is pictured in the Minnesota Decoy Book on page 337. It states in the book excellent original paint. Circa 1890-1910. Inset: head detail showing classic Heron Lake Horse Head style with quintessential Marr blunt-end bill carving. It is stated more than once by author Doug Lordermeier that these Heron Lake style decoys are among the best in the State of Minnesota. This decoy is all original in every way, including the original worn leather line attachment (under breast). It is believed by this cataloger to arguably be the finest Heron Lake Canvasback extant. Go find another one as good or better, that is for sale! This decoy does show signs of use and gunning wear. That makes it all the more desirable as folk artÄ it was used yet retains a high degree of condition. 12" L, 7 1/4" W, 6 1/2" T. See the aforementioned two lots for more detailed info for the Heron Lake style decoys. The last three cataloged Heron Lake Decoys have wonderful provenance (being printed in the Minnesota Decoy Book, by Lordermeier)! They are among the finest example of Drakes of their respective species known to exist. It would be difficult if not impossible to find better examples of each of these three drakes for sale in one place, let alone individually, at any price. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy three of the very best.
