More About this Item

Description: 9 April 1920 COLORADO. COLORADO SPRINGS. Shares of $1. brown, black. No 40355. Repaired edge-splits. Fine wide vignette of the Elkton mine and railway. The Elkton was one of the pioneer mines at Cripple Creek, scene of America's last gold rush. The company was formed in 1892, and was very successful until 1915, when the ore becameincreasingly uneconomic. A low level of production continued by re-processing the old mine-dumps, using more modern extraction processes. One of the finest vignettes on a Colorado share. Uncancelled.
