Description:

On June 3, 1959, while stationed in Germany during his military service, Elvis Presley was admitted to the U.S. Army's 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt for tonsillitis and a high fever. He stayed there for six days. The soldier handling the admission at the hospital asked Elvis to sign the back of the index card that was created when he was brought into the hospital. Elvis obliged and left a beautiful, large and bold blue ink signature on the card. That the soldier requested the autograph from Elvis was no spur-of-the-moment decision. He was under strict orders from our consignor. Her letter, which accompanies the card offered here, reads:

My husband (at the time) was drafted into the Army the same time as Elvis. He was sent to San Antonio, TX, and trained as a medic. One of the guys in his company was sent to Germany. He happened to be in the same place as Elvis. I asked him if he ever came in contact with him would he please get his autograph for me. Later he sent me a letter telling me he had admitted Elvis to the infirmary and he had tonsillitis. He said he had the admittance slip and Elvis signed it on the back. I have cherished it ever since. I'm still a big fan.

Mission accomplished! The front of the card lists the patient's personal information, starting with "PRESLEY ELVIS A," and continuing to identify his various military designations and assignments, as well as his father's name, "MR VERNON PRESLEY/F," and address in Bad Nauheim. Finally, on the last line, the card lists the illness, "TONSILLITIS." The index card measures 3 by 5 inches (7.62 x 12.7 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Condition Report: The index card exhibits mild age toning, with one small stain on the reverse that barely touches the signature. The signature itself remains bold. Excellent to Mint condition.
