Description: EPISCOPIUS, J. (= J. de Bisschop). Paradigmata graphices variorum artificum (ex formis N. Visscher). Voor-beelden der teken-konst van verscheyde meesters. - Bound w.: Id. Signorum veterum icones. - The Hague, 1671. 2 in 1 vol. W. engr. title (loose/outer margins partly dam.) by G. de Lairesse and 156 (of 157) etched plates after famous statues and paintings. Fol. Cont. blind tooled vellum. (Upper inner hinge broken, stained (in places severely), pencil lines added to 1 plate). Jan de Bisschop (1628-1671), also known as Johannes Episcopius (1628–1671), was a lawyer according to Houbraken, who became a Dutch Golden Age painter and engraver. His books were meant as instructional material for young artists. Sold w.a.f., not subject to return. - Kunst op schrift, 11a; Bolten, pp. 71-72.
