Description: Etruscan Revival Gold and Enamel Mesh Fringe Necklace, Giacinto Melillo
The wire mesh necklace tipped by a continuous line of florets, spaced by green enamel leaves supporting a continuous line of herringbone chain fringe accented by blue enamel discs, suspending detailed urn pendants, with maker's mark, circa 1865, approximately 77 dwts. Length 14 3/8 inches.

Giacinto Melillo (1846-1915) made jewelry in the archaeological style, similar to Castellani, which was inspired by the Campana collection and jewelry discovered in excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum. He managed the Castellani workshop in Naples until 1870. Melillo signed some of his pieces with the monogram GM, as this necklace is. However, the majority of his jewelry was not signed..
