Description: Europa - Schweden - - Thomson, Thomas. Travels in Sweden, during the Autumn of 1812. Mit 2 gestochenen Porträts, 5 mehrfach gefalteten gestochenen Karten und 6 Kupfertafeln. London, Baldwin, 1813. XII, 457 S. 27,2 x 21,5 cm. Roter Halblederband der Zeit mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel und Rückenvergoldung (berieben, beschabt und etwas bestoßen, Kapitale mit kleineren Läsuren).
Erste Ausgabe. - Poggendorff II, 1098. - Der schottische Chemiker und Mineraloge Thomas Thomson (1773-1852) - Erfinder des Saccharometers, dem die englische Sprache den Begriff "Silicon" verdankt - umreißt die Ziele seiner siebenwöchigen Reise wie folgt: "My objects were not only to observe the manners and dispositions of the people, and the progress which they had made in the arts and civilization; but likewise to make a mineralogical survey of the country, as far as that could be done by hastily traversing it; to view as nearly as possible the state of chemistry in Sweden, and to make myself acquainted with the discoveries made in that science by the Swedes in the last ten years" (S. 1). - So enthält der Band umfangreiches mineralogisches Material, unter anderem 4 geognostische Karten. - Innendeckel mit Exlibris, 2 Karten mit kurzen Randeinrissen, stellenweise leicht gebräunt und schwach braunfleckig. - Gutes Exemplar.

First edition. - With 2 engr. portraits, 5 fold. engr. maps and 6 engr. plates. Contemp. red half calf, gilt (some rubbing). - Exlibris. 2 maps with small tears, minor browning resp. staining.
