Basel: Petri, 1549. 12.5" x 8". 2 parts in 1 volume. , 469 (i.e. 766),  pages; , 6, , 7-170 leaves. Early full calf, hinges cracked with glue to hinges, spine, and corners. Front board held by three cords, the whole rubbed and with loss at corners and spine ends. Former owner signature dated 1705 to front endpaper, front pastedown with numerical ink-stamp, early manuscript to rear pastedown and to a few margins, a few corner-chips and closed tears, title with light soiling, overall clean but approx. the last 120 leaves with large faded water-stain (more visible near back, dissipating from there), some other smaller (mostly marginal, quite faded) water-stains near front, else Very Good. ****************************** Handsome edition with title set within woodcut border designed by Hans Holbein (Basel catalog 383).
