Description: Artist: ALPHONSE-ETIENNE DINET (1861-1929) Size: 32 3/4 x 95 5/8 in./83.3 x 243 cm Imp. de Vaugirard, Paris Best known for his elaborate Orientalist paintings, Dinet was an accomplished artist who felt such kinship to his subjects that he officially converted to Islam and moved to Algeria around 1910. This evocative design for the Andalusian pavilion at the 1900 World's Fair shows a dancer performing to a smiling male audience. (world fair)
