Description: FAULKNER, WILLIAM. Sanctuary. 8vo, publisher's 1/4 red-stamped grey cloth over magenta boards, patterned endpapers, top edges stained black, slight lean, spine slightly darkened; dust jacket, few small chips to spine panel ends and corners not affecting lettering, two small nicks at top of front panel, one just touching one letter, few short closed tears, one with tiny mend, unclipped. New York: Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith, (1931)

Notes: first edition, first issue. Faulkner's sixth novel, and his first to be adapted into a film (retitled The Story of Temple Drake), though Faulkner himself did not have a hand in any aspect of the production. Fargnoli and Golay, p. 201; Peterson A8b; Connolly, The Modern Movement 69.
