Description: Fedele Fischetti Naples, 1732 - 1792 Vénus et Adonis Toile Venus and Adonis, oil on canvas, by F. Fischetti h: 77 w: 63 cm Commentaire : Né à Naples en 1732, Fedele Fischetti commence par peindre des tableaux religieux pour les églises de la ville avant de se spécialiser dans les décors à fresque avec une prédilection pour les cycles à sujets mythologiques. Très marqué par les peintres néoclassiques rencontrés lors de séjours romains - Angelica Kauffmann notamment - Fischetti évolue vers un style raffiné. Proche de Luigi Vanvitelli, architecte travaillant dans les palais et résidences royales à Naples, il est amené à créer, dans les années 1780, de nouveaux modèles pour la toute jeune fabrique de tapisseries locale. En effet, lorque la fabrique de tapisseries florentine ferme après la mort du dernier des Médicis, en octobre 1737, Charles de Bourbon, souverain du nouveau royaume indépendant de Naples, y fait venir les meilleurs de ses artisans. Avec ces chefs d'atelier, il installe des métiers de basse lisse à côté de l'église San Carlo alle Mortele et ouvre une fabrique de tapisseries. Cet atelier travaille pour l'architecte du roi, Luigi Vanvitelli, appelé à Naples pour construire le palais de Caserte. C'est probablement lui qui, en 1757, fait venir de Rome le tapissier Pietro Duranti qui assure le développement de la fabrique en ouvrant et dirigeant un atelier de haute lice. Confiant la création des cartons de tapisseries à des peintres de la ville comme Bonito, de Mura ou Fischetti, il les encourage à adopter les nouveaux coloris clairs en vogue à Rome. Dès lors la manufacture ne se contente plus de répéter des motifs connus mais devient un lieu de création. Malheureusement les pillages de la période révolutionnaire entraînent l'arrêt de la production en 1799. Les tonalités et le cadre naturel de Vénus et Adonis (lot 83) peuvent être rapprochés de La toilette de Psyché (toile, 295 x 505 cm), carton d'une des tapisseries tissée par Duranti en 1786 pour le palais royal de Caserte1. Le format plus modeste ici indiquerait une première étude qui n'aurait peut-être pas été retenue, le sujet n'apparaissant pas dans le cycle aujourd'hui exposé dans le salon d'Hercule du Palais royal de Naples (fig. 1). 1.
