Description: Artist: THÉOPHILE-ALEXANDRE STEINLEN (1859-1923) Size: 18 x 23 5/8 in./45.7 x 60 cm From arresting to alluring, charming to despondent, Steinlen created countless portraits of women in all manner of moods throughout his career. Here we see what could be the older, less idealized sister of his muse in the Krefeld poster (see Lot 644). She squints out at the viewer, sizing us up and she wraps her shawl even tighter around her nude body - an intimate, yet tense moment in time.
Condition Report: Charcoal & pastel drawing.
