Description: Marble, painted in reddish brown and with remains of gold lacquer China, 20th century Typical representation of Budai in a relaxed seated posture, the right leg set up, with a big belly, frowning forehead and broad smile On his body further small figures as a symbol of his love for children The flowing robe painted in reddish brown, the facial features accentuated in black and red Height: 44 cm Good condition Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. Budai Budai is the Chinese god of luck, who is also known under the Japanese name Hotei. He is mostly represented, as is the case here, as a monk with a large belly and broad smile. Hence, he is also often called ‘laughing Buddha’. Budai also embodies some Asian ideals of life; the belly is a symbol of wealth and the laughter symbolizes serenity and satisfaction with oneself and with the environment. Condition: The figure is in good condition with signs of age and wear. There is significant loss of color with a few notches. The height is 44 cm.
