FRANK HENRY SHAPLEIGH (1842-1906): OLD FARM HOUSE AT JACKSON, NH

Note: Frank Henry Shapleigh was born in Boston and settled in New Hampshire after studying at the Lowell Institute of Drawing and with French Barbizon painter Emile Lambinet in Europe. From 1877 to 1893, he was the artist-in-residence at the Crawford House in the White Mountains. After a second trip to Europe in 1896, Shapleigh built a home and studio in Jackson, New Hampshire which he named Maple Knoll. Shapleigh is known for his views of the White Mountains and its surrounding landscapes, well as for scenes in St. Augustine, Florida where he was part of the artistic community.
