This is the original Engraved Steel Printing Plate and Proof Sample Imprint of Franklin Bank Note Company, New York. The plate is very nice, being a natural steel-gray in color, satiny and pleasing, measuring 4" x 4" square, with a blank reverse. Original paper wrapper is included, together with an early original sample Proof Impression on heavy laid paper. The black and white image has press soiling and wear, obviously used as a guide for the Press operator in the printing process. Engraved historic "Arms of New York City" with identification number: "V48731" in red, with No. "81" in black seen in the outer margins as a Printer notation. Appears to be totally unique. (2 items)
