Description: oil on canvas laid down on board

Condition Report: Condition as per Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. (4/13/2015): Although this work is in beautiful condition, the lining is outdated and is beginning to show problems. The wax adhering the lining is causing acidification of the paint layer, and the cracking in the sky is greatly attributable to this. This would be corrected if the lining is reversed. There is no evident abrasion in the paint layer, and this is certainly a very well preserved picture overall. When viewed under ultraviolet light, there are essentially no restorations of any note. If the lining were adjusted, the condition would be extremely good.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
