Description: Detailed, sharply struck badge in bronze with part-polished fire gilding in the finest production quality at that time and appropriate to the importance of this bureau. An eagle sits "with folded wings" on an irregular wreath composed of 16 oak leaves, "with a swastika in its talons, in special issue", designed especially (probably by Paul Casberg, Berlin) for the Academy for Aeronautical Research which was established on 12 October 1937 by a general meeting of the Lilienthal Gesellschaft at the German Museum in Munich. Eyelet suspended by mean of an oak leaf cup, with grooved attachment pin and security slide closure. The polished reverse with the presumed issue/award date "21.1.1938" and maker logo "LN 1790" of the Nuremberg firm Christian L. Lauer. Width 51 mm. Weight 14,8 g. Resting on blue velvet within its spring-lidded case covered in blue imitation leather. A splendid specimen of the first magnitude! Whereas 146 badges in Bronze were given to corresponding members and those in Silver were handed out to supporting members, 82 badges in gold were awarded to honorary members, exceptional members and full members. Because the membership badges of the full members were returnable, and were of gilt silver bearing an enrolment number, this engraved example must be one of those awarded only during the first session (until 1 March 1938) of the Academy to honorary members (or solely to full lifetime members), whose bearers were published in the yearbook of the Academy. Unique thus, and of museum importance! Cf. Jörg. M. Hormann in INFO 30, December 1983.

Die Hermann Historica oHG, ihre Versteigerer und Einlieferer bieten und geben diese Gegenstände nur unter diesen Voraussetzungen an bzw. ab.
As long as catalogue owner, auction participants and bidders do not state otherwise, they agree to the condition that the catalogue and the items displayed in the catalogue that refer to the Third Reich are used exclusively for the purpose of civic education, the purpose of defense against actions that defy the constitutional rights, the purpose of art or science, the purpose of academic research and education, coverage regarding contemporary/historic developments or for purposes similar to the ones stated above (§ 86a , 86 penal code). Hermann Historica oHG, its auctioneers and suppliers will only yield ownership of the corresponding items according to these conditions.
Importantly, absentee bidders should note that purchases made using our absentee bid form, by either telephone or in writing, that shipping instructions must be indicated by ticking the box on the bid form. In the absence of this instruction we will automatically assume that the buyer will require Hermann Historica to ship on his / her behalf. The standard shipping charge will cover the costs of packing and postage, together with insurance against loss or damage in transit only. These charges will be recorded on the buyer`s invoice (the insurance premium calculated at 1% of the aggregate purchase figure)
If shipping costs are not recorded on the buyer´s invoice it means either that the buyer intends to collect purchases in person or that standard shipping is not possible. In the latter case this may be for reasons of the abnormal size, weight or fragility of the purchased property, it may also result from the specific application of legal requirements.
In this instance we shall obtain a freight quotation on behalf of the buyer. Upon subsequent receipt of confirmed instructions Hermann Historica shall be pleased to proceed with shipping.
Due to changed regulations it is unfortunately no longer possible to send any kind of firearms from Germany to foreign destinations by regular mail service. We will, if possible, organise international shipping through forwarding agents or specialised courier services, however, with the consequence of noticeably higher shipping costs.
