Description: around 1880 North-West Persia, wool on Goat Hair. The nomadic tribes known as Gashgai and Khamseh originate from Iran´s South-West around the city of Shiraz, traditionally renowned as Iran´s garden, and are regarded as the kings of Persian nomads carpet-making trade. Their century-old tradition has made the Gashgai become de facto artisans, knotting their pieces of art idependently of their nomadic lifestyle. The present Gashgai boasts a very rare striped muster with a Kelim finishing. The pile is made of wool, the weft is made of goat hair. 102,4 x 63 inch condition 2, carpet is possibly in need of cleaning, expertly restored, Abrash (color gradation within one color), slight signs of age at edges or fringes, otherwise good condition.
