Description: ( Pope, the Great ) Opera , title in red and black with large device in elaborate border of foliage, monsters and grotesques, historiated and decorative initials, double column, small piece (c. 45 x 40 mm.) cut out of title, without loss of text or decoration, few wormholes to text of first c. 20 ff., some marginal worming towards the end, long tear, without loss, to A2, few other marginal tears or fraying, title soiled, some sporadic staining and marking eslewhere, 3 stamps on title, contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, paper labels on spine, large fragments of early printers' waste, one including a partly hand-coloured woodcut, used as paste-downs, rubbed and marked, covers mottled, perhaps decoratively, corners worn. clasps missing, overall a handsome copy with generous margins, [Adams G1165], folio, Paris, Bertholdus Rembolt for Jehan Petit , 1518. Scarce edition, not traced at auction since 1958. The printed paste-downs consist of ephemeral and very rare early astrological prognostications. Stabii ad annos domini M D iii & iiii' at foot, and 'Impressum Nurmberg Io. V' at end of the third column.
