Book Details: One of the last mountain ranges in the U.S. to be scientifically explored and mapped. Until the year 1869, there was no published account of these mountains, nor were they on any map. The range is located in southern Utah on the right bank of the Colorado River of the West, and between its tributaries, the Dirty Devil and the Escalante.
Condition / Notes: This is the first edition of this work. The antique half-leather volume has marbled paper covers and five raised bands. The front board is partially separated. The text block is solid. The pages are clean with mild age toning. The frontispiece depicts a half-sterogram of Mount Ellsworth. The work is profusely illustrated with engraved plates and text illustrations. At the back of the volume are four folding maps of the mountains and their vicinity.
