Leggere fioriture, qualche abrasione, strappo al margine bianco interno della tavola Plan de la Rade; minima perdita al margine bianco della tavola Dame creole chez elle. Una minima perdita in corrispondenza dell'angolo inferiore della carta B1, senza perdita di testo. Lievi fioriture e macchie. Leggera gora all'ultimo fascicolo. Legatura coeva in vitello, dorso a cinque nervi, titolo impresso in oro su tassello in marocchino rosso, compartimenti decorati da ferri dorati. Segnalibro in seta verde; tagli rossi. Angoli dei piatti lievemente schiacciati. Bell'esemplare di questa edizione, che accoglie le osservazioni sui terremoti di Hales, apparse per la prima volta in lingua inglese nel 1750 sul Philosophical Transactions. La presente seconda edizione è accompagnata dalla traduzione in francese della True and Particular Relation of the Dreadful Earthquake, ovvero la relazione sul violento terremoto che distrusse Lima e il porto di Callao il 28 ottobre 1746, erroneamente ascritta al padre gesuita Pedro Lozano. Le ultime carte includono alcune lettere attribuite al reverendo E. Heath sulle scosse che colpirono l'isola di Jamaica nel giugno 1692, tradotte dallo stesso Hales. Sabin, 42596. Seven engraved plates (light foxing; abrased; tear on the blank inner margin of the plate Plan de la Rade; small loss on the blank margin of the plate Dame creole chez elle. Contemporary calf, spine with five raised bands, gilt-tooled title on red morocco littering piece, compartments decorated with gilt fillets. Green silk bookmark; red edges. Slightly crushed the corners of the covers. Small loss on the lower margin of fol.B1, without loss of text. Light foxing and stains. Light waterstain on the last quire. Beautiful copy of this edition, that welcomes the observations on earthquakes by Hales, appeared for the first time in english in 1750 on the Philosophical Transactions. This edition is the second edition and is accompanied by the french translation of the True and Particular Relation of the Dreadful Earthquake, the the report on the violent earthquake that destroyed Lima and the port of Callao October 28, 1746, falsely ascribed to Jesuit Father Pedro Lozano. The last leaves includes some letters attributed to the Reverend E- Heath about the shocks that hit the island of Jamaica in June 1692, translated by Hales himself. Sabin, 42596.
