Description: HALMA F. (cartographer), Charles Vialart, Lukas Holste. “Geographia sacra sive notitia antique…”, Amstelaedami: Apud Rud. & Gerh. Wetstenios, 1711. Folio (45,5x30cm), pp.[10], 332, 72. COMPLETE Atlas of Geography Sacra, with 11 copper engraved maps edited in Amsterdam in 1711 by Holstenius. The maps are: 1. Patriarchatus Romanus… 2. Antiquorum Italiae & Illyrici Occidentalis Episcopatum… 3. Antiquorum Africae Episcopatuum… 4. Antiquorum Galliae Episcopatuum… 5. Antiquorum Britanniae Episcopatuum… 6. Antiquorum Hispaniae Episcopatuum… 7. Antiquorum Illyrici Orientalis Episcopatuum… 8. Patriarchatus Constantinopolitani… 9. Patriarchatus Alexandrini… 10. Patriarchatus Antiocheni… 11. Patriarchatus Alexandrini… All maps dim.52x38cm. Second edition of this Atlas, the first edited by Halma in 1703. Most of these Halma maps are based on Tavernier or Sanson 17th century maps of sacred Geography, but all from new plates drawn by Halma, also presenting newly drawn (typically Dutch baroque) cartouches. Maps are engraved by Eland, the best Dutch engraver of its time. Impressions are sharp and clear. The text is a detailed representation of all the Episcopal regions of the Church, covering all Patriarchates. All pages with light marginal foxing, maps in Very Fine condition. Boards in vellum (period) with modern cloth spine. Uncommon Atlas. Zacharakis 1600, 1601
