Bronze. Ayutthya Empire (Siam), approx. 17th to 18th cent.
Very well-formed, also in essential traits good, completely preserved head. Typical facial features in style of Ayutthya (from 1350) resp. in the stylistic succession following Sukhothai. Highly arched, slightly flattened brows, sensitive, curved, contoured lids, nose shape, mouth contour and chin in typical Sukhothai manner. Thickly crafted hair with pointy curls, cone-shaped ushnisha, ketumala missing. Lowered gaze and elevated upper head emphasize the Spiritual. Long earlobes are lost, customary fracture point around the neck. The patina is deep and blackened, many small remnants of former complete gilding. Mounted on an acrylic base.
