HOLLAND & HOLLAND, LONDON
AN UNUSUAL CASED .22 (L/R) SINGLE-SHOT TARGET-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1890, with blued tip-down two-stage Liege proved 10 1/2in. barrel, the top-flat signed ''SPECIALLY SIGHTED, SHOT & REGULATED BY HOLLAND & HOLLAND, 98 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON W.'' over (small) ''MADE IN GERMANY'', dove-tailed blade fore-sight, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sight, open nickel-plated frame with push-button side-catch and period London proofs, bright blue hammer, trigger and screws, oversize weighted and flared nickel-plated pommel, finely chequered ebony grips and spurred trigger-guard bow, the whole retaining virtually all its original blued and plated finish; COMPLETE WITH its original leather storage case with twin buckle-fastening cross-straps, the interior lined and compartmented in red baize, parchment period Holland & Holland label with 1883 dated field trial winners inside lid and containing a frog-crotch turn-screw, oil bottle, striker pot and brass cleaning rod with empty compartments for ammunition and further accessories
Other Notes: This unusual pistol conforms in every respect except barrel-length and grip material to a Stevens ''Lord'' pistol. However, this does not explain the ''Made In Germany'' legend or the Liege proofs so it is possible that it was a Continentally produced patent infringement of the Stevens product.
