Description: Hoof of "Quaesitum" winner of the Chester Cup and the Ascot Gold Vase in 1894, converted as an ink well with the lid inscribed as above, lacking hinge pin; and another preserved hoof for St HELEN, 1884-1905, presumed to have been in the same ownership as Quaesitum (2) Quaesitum was owned by Lord Penryhn (1836-1907), a landowner and prominent figure in the Welsh slate industry as the owner of Penryhn Quarry in North Wales. Quaesitum also recorded career victories in the Westmoreland Plate, Lincoln Autumn Cup, Houghton Stakes & Wiverton Stakes.
