In this form, the Intermeccanica Indra was only produced 36 times and is one of the only that were outfitted with the optional 5.4 Liter V8 Engines. The body was in recent years restored, documented with pictures. The original registration document from 1972 says there were 6 previous owners and it documents its first German registration.
The Intermeccanica Indra was a sportscar from the Italian automoblie manufacturer Intermeccanica, which was produced in Turin between spring 1971 and the start of 1975. Like its predecessor, the Intermeccanica Italia, the Indra had an European sports body, which was associated with American mass drive technology. The Indra was created by Franco Scaglione and constructed by Erich Bitter. There were a coupé 2+2, a hardtop coupé and a convertible. Over the course of 1970, Erich Bitter mediated contact between Intermeccanica and General Motors. A short time later it was decided not to use components of Ford USA, but to use the drive technology of the Diplomat V8, the largest and most expensive vehicle General Motors produced in Europe. At the same time General Motors should organize the distribution of cars in Europe over its Opel dealers. The cooperation lasted until 1973 – after 125 models the production of the Indra stopped.
