Description: Artist: FRANZ VON STUCK (1863-1928) Size: 27 3/4 x 36 in./70.5 x 91.5 cm A. Molling, Hannover Von Stuck's eye motif became so popular that this design was subsequently used for State Express cigarettes in 1912, for the Lustige Blätter, and for the 1930 Hygiene Exposition as well. The stylized eye is seen in a midnight blue sky, surrounded by stars, with Grecian architecture framing the text below an interesting surrealist image. Von Stuck was the cofounder, in 1893, of the Munich Secession, and his influence on other artists of the period was extensive, not only through his work in the group, but also as a frequent contributor to the magazine Jugend and as a teacher at the Munich Academy. This is the French-language version. (secession)
