Lot 153: JADE BUDDHA'S HAND CITROEN PENDANT
11 November 2016
Marietta, GA, USALive Auction
Description: Finely open work carved Chinese Jade recumbent Buddha's hand citron, on its branching stem and leaves which overlay the body. The Buddha's hand citron (Citrus Chirocarpus) derives its Chinese name fo Shou and the alternative English name of "Finger Citron" from its odd shape. It symbolizes "Much Happiness" and is used as an offering for the altar during the Chinese New Year. The nephrite jade carving is smooth, showing moist milky appearance with even tone pale-creme iridescent, beautiful translucent and sporadic golden-russet nature inclusions on the surface.
