Description: 15 January 1840 PARIS. Action de F1000. Serie 1. black. No 27. Large format with folds and a few small edge-tears. Formed Paris, 1839. The game has been played for 1000 years, initially bare-handed or with a leather glove, but later with rackets, and is the ancestor of tennis, fistball, pelota, etc. It was very popular in Paris; it 1397 play was forbidden except for Sundays, as workers abandoned their work and families to play. Being French, the ban was ignored. By 1657, 114 salles were counted in Paris alone. The château of Versailles had one, which, in 1789, was the scene of a very important event in the French Revolution, when the various estates agreed to unite for a constitution. It was an Olympic Sport in 1908, London. Today the game is played in 35 countries and it has the oldest ongoing annual world championship in sport, first established over 250 years ago. The seal shows two rackets. Only scripophily we know from this game. Probably a unique piece.
