Book Details: This is a scarce edition of this fascinating collection of lithograph facsimiles of important American Revolution documents including letters, newspapers, ephemera, broadsides. This edition contains the following note: "Notwithstanding the announcement in the second series of this work that the first would not be reprinted, the public has demanded a sixth edition, which has been entirely redrawn, and many interesting additions have been made."
Among the items represented in this volume are letters from George and Martha Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Benedict Arnold, and other historical figures. Among the documents that are reproduced are the original surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, the original memorandum of Cotton Mather "respecting the possessed woman, on a page of the New Testament," facsimile of the signature of Uncas, "the Mohegan sachem," as well as paper money of Virginia, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
Condition / Notes: This handsome antique volume is bound in three-quarter leather and marbled paper-covered boards. This solidly bound book has raised bands and gilt lettering to the spine, with marbled endpapers and a gilt top edge. The exterior shows light shelf wear, interior is clean with fresh and bright pages. An armorial bookplate can be seen on front endpaper. A gift inscription bearing the date 1875 appears on preliminary page. The work is profusely illustrated with 69 lithograph plates, one of which is colored.
