Lot 418: KEYSERLYCKE INDISCHE COMPAGNIE
29 October 2016
Brussels, BelgiumLive Auction
Description: July 1734 BELOEIL. Certificat de Repartition. black with red wax seal. No 283. This certificate confirms that a shareholder (of 6 shares) received 6% or 60 guilders back from the company pro share during the liquidation period of the company. Indeed, the Ostend East India Company was officially dissolved in 1731 (Treaty of Vienna), but unofficial trading activities continued until 1744, yet very little scripophily is known from that period. Interestingly, the shareholder in question - who also signed the document - is the Prince Ferdinand de Ligne (1686-1757), one of themost prestigious Belgian noble titles with anillustrious family history going back to the eleventh century.
