Description: Lap desk accredited to Jefferson Davis, burled mahogany, hinged lid top with fold down "desk" top and bottom, leather cover with open compartments underneath, 10 1/4" x 191 /2" x 6 1/4", keyhole lock, with motorized letter, Museum of the North - South, Starke, Fi, signed Helen Davis Brown stating information in letter is from the best of her memory since 1906 when the desk was given to her by her grandmother. CONDITION: Inside top kid has edge separation of leather, wear to leather surfaces, left top corner trim piece missing, slight separation of top trim, locked open. NOTE: This item & information was obtained from the owner, a prominent Philadelphia military/weapon collector.
