By 1833 the company was founded and the work begun, by Robert Stephenson, son ofGeorge. The 112-mile long line took five years to build, at the high cost of £5,5 million. It was completed, into Euston station, London, in 1838. In 1846 merged with other lines to become the London & North Western Railway.
