Description: 19 September 1833 LONDON. £100 Share + Share transfer receipt from 1844. black, pink seal. No 16902. Birmingham saw rapid economic growth in the 1820s, and in 1830 was sending 1000 tons of goods every week by canal to London. The advantages of having a railway were clear. By 1833 the company was founded and the work begun, by Robert Stephenson, son ofGeorge. The 112-mile long line took five years to build, at the high cost of £5,5 million. It was completed, into Euston station, London, in 1838. In 1846 merged with other lines to become the London & North Western Railway.
