TERRA INCOGNITA Fall Western Cowboy, Native American, Sporting, Advertising, Decoy, Gun, Knife, & Photography Auction
01 November 2016
Chicago, IL, USALive Auction
Description: There is no framing for this piece. It is titled A rough Sketch, with Lynn Bogue Hunt signature, appears to be on artists board or rather paper layed onto board. This was a painting done for Field and Stream probably for a 1933 fall cover. Note the cover of Green Wings. Unfortunately the date and month are missing but we think it was fall 1933. Mr. Hunt submitted this piece to the Field and Stream editor as a cover. They returned the piece stating that blue wings were not completely feathered out in the fall and that they would rather print Green wing teal on the cover. So, Mr. Hunt completed the painting in about exactly the same form, flight pattern etc. only using Green Wing Teal instead of Blue wings. This piece was given by Mr. Hunt to a fellow that called on him for business. That person handed the painting down to his heirs, later being sold once or twice. Now here it is for you. Although it is titled "rough sketch, it is a fantastic piece with Mr. Hunts skill readily noticeable. vibrant colors it sure does "speak" to us. It is 10 3/4" Wide by 15" tall. You can see its age and that it has been around. It certainly deserves to be framed. This is not a "rough sketch" for most, it is a vibrant colorful rendition of bluewing teal dropping into a hunters spread. It gives off great vibes and is outstanding art by the Master illustrator. This piece once framed will do justice to any environment in which it is hung. Lynn Bogue Hunt signed artwork has become increasingly difficult to obtain.
