Description: Melville Ezra Ingalls (18421914) the Massachusetts state legislator who went on to become president of the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad (the Big Four Railroad). Ingalls also organized the Joint Traffic Association, which was shut down by the United States Supreme Court and co-founded the Cincinnati Technical School. Melville financed the construction of the Ingalls Building in Cincinnati, which was the world's first reinforced concrete skyscraper in 1903. The town of Ingalls, Indiana is named in his honor. Offered here are 2 typed letters signed dated Cincinnati, 1898 & 1899, each, 1p, signed by Igalls, written to J.A. Barnard at Indianapolis. Both regarding Guardians of Abbie Ingalls Barnard. Also includes an 1899 receipt from J.P. Morgan, signed in red ink by J.A. Barnard [intials], plus 6 unsigned carbon copies of letters, and a newspaper clipping.
