22 October 2016
Manchester, NH, USALive Auction
Description: Massachusetts, 8 day, weight brass movement Patent or Banjo timepiece.
Condition Report: Gilt front and mahogany case with restoration. Someone has nailed the pieces of wood that makeup the bottom box. The gilding on the corner blocks on the throat and bottom door has been poorly done. The gilding on the bottom backet is worn in places. The throat tablet is a replacement. The bottom tablet is old and perhaps original with loss to the background paint. The dial plate has been repainted and may be replaced as there are additional holes in the head. The signature of Aaron Willard is not correct. Hands are modern. The pendulum and rod are probably replaced as it is the type found on c. 1850 Hatch banjos. This movement is attached to the case with a single screw through the backplate. Hatch movements used two screws through the brass backplate to attach it to the case.
Dimensions: 41.5in x 10in x 4in
