This Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullmann Typ W 100 has a new TÜV and a H-Certification (historic).
The vehicle belonged to the American politician Lester Garfield Maddox, Sr. (1915-2003), who used it as his representative vehicle. He was governer of Georgia between 1967 and 1971.
The Mercedes-Benz 600, internally titled W 100, was a sensation with its V-8 engine and the short and long body shape, as Mercedes had built a representative vehicle by prototype of 770 for the first time. The 600 was the state and representative vehicle from Daimler-Benz in the 1960’s and 1970’s, being ahead of all other manufacturers. For Mercedes, the 600 was more a matter of prestige rather than a profitable business, so that despite the high sales price, each shipped out 600 made a loss. The German government for example never bought one. The minister of finance at that time Franz-Josef Strauß commented, the vehicle was way too expensive – probably because BMW, originating from his home town Munich, couldn’t offer a comparable car. That is why the German government rents the 600 up until today, when a representative vehicle is needed. Many of the ca. 2,600 vehicles were custom made based on the wishes of its wealthy clients. Although, or perhaps because there are now hardly any spare parts available for the Mercedes 600, the price has risen sharply among collectors and enthusiasts in recent years.
