Description: Michoacan Ceramic Tripod Vessel W/Rattle Legs Found in Mexico Circa 900-1000 AD. - This piece was found in Mexico and is believed to be circa 900-1000 AD. The piece is Meso/American painted with a plethora of indigenous motifs meticulously arranged into geometric chevrons. Both the round of the interior lip of the vessel and the full exterior are fully decorated. A vessel such as this one was designed to be held by one tribe member and shaken during rituals to create a deep, rattling sound. This pies measures 5.25" in diameter and 3.5" high, and is intact with some mineral deposits still present. A similar example is currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 1986-482. This piece is truly a stunning piece of history.
