Description: MITCHELL, MARGARET. Gone With the Wind. Thick 8vo, grey cloth stamped in slate, textblock square, spine tips lightly rubbed, small dent to bottom of rear board; first issue dust jacket (with this title listed as second book in the right-hand column of rear panel), top of front flap clipped with $3.00 price in lower corner intact, chips to spine panel head with letters unaffected, tiny nicks to fold corners, light rubbing along folds, short closed tear to bottom of rear flap, faint fingersoiling to rear panel; Henry Tatnall Brown, Jr. bookplate (gluestains from mounting) to front pastedown. New York: Macmillan, 1936

Notes: first edition, first printing in unrestored first issue dust jacket, signed by eleven members of the supporting cast of the film, with nine of the signatures adding the name of the character they portrayed in the film. The signatures appear (variously accomplished in blue or black ink, and black marker) as follows: "Evelyn Keyes, 'Suellen' [O'Hara]," "Mickey Kuhn, 'Beau [Wilkes] age 7 years,'" "Marcella Martin [Cathleen Calvert]," "Ann Rutherford, 'Careen' [O'Hara],'" Rand Brooks [Charles Hamilton]," "William Bakewell, 'A Mounted Officer'", "Greg Griese, 'Baby Beau & Baby Bonnie'", "Fred Crane, 'Brent Tarleton'", "Patrick Curtis 'Baby Beau'", "Frank (Junior) Coghlan, The collapsing Southern soldier," and "Cammie King 'Bonnie Blue [Butler]'".

The signatures were obtained by Mr. Tatnall Brown on the occasion of the film's March 10, 1961 gala "Anniversary Premiere" at Loew's Grand Theatre in Atlanta commemorating the centennial of the start of the Civil War as well as marking the 25th anniversary of the publication of the book. The Loew's Grand was the venue famous for the original December 19, 1939 world premiere. Brown was a book collector who was Dean of Haverford College (their institutional seal appearing on the present bookplate) and authored a Christopher Morley bibliography.

Also includes Typed Letter Signed, 2 pages (one sheet, folded), addressed to "Mrs. [T.J.] Busey," and dated December 19, 1941 from Atlanta, with original mailing envelope with cancellations, signed "Margaret Mitchell Marsh."
