Headpieces and initials, 47 engraved plates and maps, some folding (some spotting and staining, more pronounced to plates at the end of the second vol., piece torn away from one folding map with slight loss, a few tears without significant loss). 19th-century half calf with tan and green morocco lettering-pieces and raised bands, modern endpapers (rubbed). Provenance: J. Alexander Pierson (armorial bookplate); "Hugh Macandren. Bought from Iain Ramsay, bookseller Edinburgh, 11 January 1990" (inscription on front free endpaper of vol. II and signature in vol. II). FIRST EDITION. Cox I, 77-78; not in Blackmer. A French edition was published in The Hague in 1727. Many of the plates are by, or purport to be by, William Hogarth. (2)
