Description: This is an early colonial extra large candle box from New England circa 1700s. The colonial candle box is handmade of walnut wood and has a chamfered sliding lid top with a two finger grip notches. A large candle box would have been a staple in a colonial family's open hearth kitchen. The candle box was constructed using wooden peg joinery that has been supplemented with age appropriate square nails. The colonial candle box is heavy in weight and has beautiful grain lines.
